The London giants have made a decision on the future of academy product Reiss Nelson. Arsenal are set to listen to offers for U21 England international with the Spanish coach aiming to cut down on the numbers in his squad.
Reiss is a product of the Gunners youth academy and has been heralded as one of the brightest prospects to have come through the youth ranks in recent years. Nelson made his first-team debut back in 2017 and then went on to have a decent loan spell away at German club TSG Hoffenheim.
Since returning, however, despite showing glimpses of his potential, the 21-year-old winger hasn’t been able to nail down a spot in the starting XI at the London club. To date, the English attacker has featured only 47 times for the Gunners, managing a comeback of only four goals and four assists each.
Game time has been hard to come by for the winger this campaign with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, Willian, Emile Smith Rowe all ahead of him in the pecking order under Mikel Arteta. As a result, Reiss has played only nine games in all tournaments in 2020/21, with only two of those coming in the PL.
The Spanish manager had earlier revealed that Reiss had turned down an opportunity to leave Gunners on loan and instead opted to remain at the London club and fight for a place. But, it looks like the decision now looks to be taken out of his hand, with the coach aiming to trim down his bloated squad ahead of the next campaign.
