The London giants are keen to re-sign Donyell Malen despite selling him to PSV Eindhoven for only £540,000 in 2017, according to reports. The Netherlands international’s scintillating form for the Dutch club has seen the centre-forward appear back on Arsenal’s radar.
Donyell has bagged 33 goals and 16 assists in 78 matches for PSV. And Malen could soon be on the way back to the London club. The 21-year-old striker spent two years in Gunners academy having joined from Ajax’s Under-17s in 2015. Some of Europe’s biggest teams are said to be interested and that list includes the London giants.
Juventus are reported to have made contact with his super-agent Mino Raiola despite the Dutch centre-forward being plagued by a knee injury this summer. But Donyell was said to be uninterested in a move as he wants to focus on his domestic form for PSV to ensure he is in Holland’s squad for next summer’s Euros.
Malen already has four senior caps and has scored once. And Donyell is also a decorated Netherlands youth star having turned out for every age group from the Under-15s. The London giants were also linked with a £50m move for Donyell LAST summer.
Rumours circulated in 2017 suggesting Donyell left Arsenal because he was ‘too fat’ but the centre-forward moved quickly to quash such stories. Last summer he said: “That I was sent away from Arsenal is certainly not true. I still had a contract for a year and Arsenal even wanted to extend that.”
“I don’t play football for money. I never did that. Otherwise, I would not have left England.” Earlier today it emerged Donyell’s PSV team-mate Mario Gotze is in the best shape of his career thanks to a newfound love of yoga.
