The London giants are set to make Dominic Calvert-Lewin their priority striking target next summer as Arsenal hunt a successor for out-going Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners revamp is on a roll starting earlier this summer, following their ninth-place finish in the PL, and the summer saw them spend nearly £150m on six new additions, all under-23, to bring down the team’s average age and invest in building a competent team for the future rather than only loitering the spending on experienced footballers.
Although Arsenal did upgrade many key areas with fresh and hungry young footballers, neither of these addressed their goal-scoring issues.
England international has progressed leaps and bounds since exploding onto the scene at Everton back in the 2017/18 season and is currently regarded as one of the best out-and-out centre-forwards in the English top-flight.
Guided by the ex-coach Carlo Ancelotti and Duncan Ferguson, Dominic netted 16 goals from 33 PL matches in the 2020/21 season. While Calver-Lewin was on course to beat his best tally this campaign, his progress has been hampered with an injury, scoring only three goals in three league outings before the spell on the sidelines.
His glowing displays earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad at Euro 2020. In fact, the English striker is only behind Harry Kane in the pecking order in the Three Lions setup. The 24-year-old striker is quick, intelligent, and a decent presser while he’s equally comfortable on the ball.
