The London club are reportedly willing to pay £25m for Chris Smalling to meet Red Devils valuation, while they’re hopeful Bukayo Saka will commit his long-term future. Amid being down in ninth place in the Premier League table, Arsenal will still hold the hope of securing UCL qualification for next campaign.
Eight points now separate them and fourth-placed Blues, albeit they do have a game in hand in midweek with Man City. Time will tell if the Gunners can secure a top-four finish or not, while they stay in the battle for the FA Cup too as the Spanish manager seems to salvage something from the season.
However, plans could already be in motion for the summer to bolster the squad, as the Gunners are willing to meet England international’s £25m price-tag, and in turn, will potentially fend off rivals Spurs in the hunt for his signature.
Chris has impressed during his loan spell with Roma this campaign, and if he’s unlikely to make a breakthrough on his come back to Old Trafford this summer, perhaps a permanent exit would suit all sides.
With Gunners needing to shore up their defence, a move for Smalling could be a smart move, albeit £25m is a huge fee, but time will tell if they can seal a transfer. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Bukayo Saka will pen a new deal with his current contract set to expire in 2021.
Saka has been fantastic this campaign and has been particularly useful for Mikel Arteta as he has been deployed at left-back to fill in for others.
