London club have initiated talks with Layvin Kurzawa to sign the PSG left-back on a free transfer in the summer. France international is out of contract in less than six months and is unlikely to be offered a new contract by the Ligue 1 giants.
Layvin is currently free to speak with any potential European suitors and Gunners have already registered an interest in the experienced defender. Amid London club’s remote hopes of finishing in the top four this campaign, Spanish manager is unlikely to spend heavily, if at all, in the winter window and will plan for the summer market instead.
The new Gunners manager is said to have championed the signing of Kurzawa and Gunners could yet submit a bid to Parisians before the end of the month if their injury crisis continues to worsen. Gunners spent £25m on Kieran Tierney in the summer, but injuries have restricted Scotland international to only 11 games this campaign.
Indeed, Kieran is not expected to back in full training until March after he dislocated his shoulder with West Ham in December, while the club’s only other recognised left-back, Sead Kolasinac, is nursing an ankle problem. The 27-year-old left-back, meanwhile, has played 12 times for PSG this campaign but missed the side’s last four games.
With Nacho Monreal having been sold in August, Bukayo Saka has been asked to fill in at left-back on occasion, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos played at right-back in the recent FA Cup victory against Leeds in the absence of Calum Chambers whose campaign was ended by a cruciate knee ligament injury.
