The London giants could be pressing ahead with a move for James Maddison after agreeing on personal terms with the attacker. Arsenal are now expected to make a formal offer for the Leicester City attacker, which would possibly make him the Gunners marquee signing this summer.
The Gunners search for a playmaker has seen them linked to numerous stars around Europe. Emile Smith Rowe is already present at the Emirates Stadium to feature in a similar role, but the Spanish manager has used the teenager in varied positions, including as a wide attacker.
Additionally, Martin Odegaard’s presence in the second half of the last campaign has seemingly elevated the Spanish manager’s thinking in bringing a similar creator to the side after the Norwegian playmaker decided to remain in Real Madrid following his loan spell. Hence, England international links refuse to go away.
James certainly fits the profile of the attacker Mikel Arteta seeks, as he can play in a No.10 role while also being equally comfortable as an attacking No.8 or even out wide. Additionally, Maddison has showcased his quality in an attack-minded Foxes side over the last few campaigns and has plenty of experience.
The Gunners have now reportedly agreed on personal terms with the English attacker, paving the way for the club to make a formal offer to the Foxes. It is believed that the 24-year-old midfielder will earn £200,000-a-week after Arsenal made a bumper deal offer to him recently.
Arsenal have already signed Nuno Tavares from Benfica and confirmed Albert Sambi Lokonga’s capture from Anderlecht. A central midfield partner for Thomas Partey is a priority, while a new centre-forward could also be on the cards.
