The London giants are keeping an eye on Ivan Toney’s progress at Brentford with Arsenal harbouring questions over Alexandre Lacazette’s long-term future at the Emirates Stadium, according to reports.
Ivan has notched an excellent 16 goals in 22 Championship matches for the Bees this campaign after making the switch from League One side Peterborough back in the summer. Toney has attracted interest from Gunners, who will continue monitoring him over the coming months.
The report states that with the limited transfer budget available at the Gunners, bringing in a centre-forward isn’t on the agenda at this current moment in time. But looking at the long-term picture, Gunners are said to have doubts over incumbent No.9 Alexandre’s future with his deal due to expire in the summer of 2022.
Lacazette’s form has been patchy over past campaigns, but he has stepped up to score the majority of his side’s goals of late with the usually potent Aubameyang struggling to find the back of the net. France international has seven PL goals to his name this term and has played a vital role in Gunners recent resurgence.
Alexandre, who was targeted by multiple top European teams last summer, is still appreciated by the Spanish coach. However, should Lacazette move on, Arsenal may find it difficult to replace him with an elite striker without the UCL football, which could make the 24-year-old striker a more viable option.
The Gunners winning streak came to an end on Thursday as they were held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Crystal Palace side at the Emirates Stadium.
