The London giants are keeping their sights on Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui over a summer move. Morocco international started out at the Alphense academy before making the switch to the Dutch club’s youth setup in 2006.
Mazraoui made his first-team debut for the Eredivisie club in 2018 and has since been a regular in the side, for the most part, playing 113 games so far, scoring nine goals and setting up eight more. Noussair has started the new campaign on a strong note as well, bagging four goals and three assists from 11 matches across all tournaments.
However, the 23-year-old defender’s future has become a subject of intense transfer speculation as his deal with the Dutch giants is ready to run out at the end of the ongoing season.
Barcelona have been linked with a move for the Moroccan defender, and now the Gunners have also entered the fray for his signing. Arsenal bolstered their right-back position with the late addition of Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, but Hector Bellerin left the Emirates Stadium to sign for Real Betis on loan.
However, the African defender does not look to have a long-term future at Arsenal, while Cedric Soares has not exactly set the stage on fire since joining Arsenal from Southampton.
With Maitland-Niles being used in his preferred midfield role and Calum Chambers’ unknown future, adding another right-back in the summer would be a good move for the Gunners.
