Arsenal in pole position to sign 22-year-old Switzerland international

Gunners will offer Borussia Monchengladbach Granit Xhaka if they agree to sell them, Denis Zakaria. Switzerland international is a rising star in Bundesliga with the Foals top of the table and the midfielder coveted by a host of top clubs, including Man United.

London club are expected to offload their former captain Granit in the winter transfer window and the Spanish boss will use Xhaka to capture Denis. Zakaria is under contract at German club until 2022, and the Foals may be tempted to cash in on him next summer.

Granit joined the Gunners from Gladbach in 2016, and a return to the club may be appealing to the Swiss midfielder. London club will send Xhaka back to Bundesliga if the Foals agree to give them first refusal on the 22-year-old star when they decide to sell. Spanish manager wants to bolster the squad during the summer transfer window.

Although Unai Emery has not ruled out recalling Granit to the London club, the 27-year-old player has not played since telling fans to ‘f*** off’ in reaction to being booed at the Emirates. Denis and Xhaka play together for their country, and the Swiss captain has already marked his international team-mate out as a special footballer.

‘His development is outstanding’ said Xhaka. ‘Having Denis in the national team next to me makes me feel better. But he has to stay tuned – now comes a very crucial phase for him.’ Tottenham and Man United have been credited with an interest in Swiss player, who has scored twice from midfield for Gladbach this campaign.
