Arsenal given green light to sign 27-year-old Ghanaian midfielder

Arsenal manager’s hopes of landing Thomas Partey have been given a further boost after the agreement was given the green light by Gunners technical director Edu. Ghana international has emerged as the Emirates’ top summer target, with the Atletico Madrid midfielder keen on a move to the London club.

Gunners are confident they will wrap up a deal for Thomas and Mikel Arteta views him as a crucial arrival. Head of international recruitment Francis Cagigao, who brought in Gabriel Martinelli, was the man who initially identified Partey as a crucial addition, and the move has now been approved by both Mikel Arteta and Edu.

Financing the deal may prove difficult, however. Funds will need to be raised to sign the 27-year-old midfielder, with Matteo Guendouzi, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira all facing the exit door in order for the Spanish tactician to get his man.

Mikel Arteta can just spend money raised from sales this summer or bring in loan deals. The Ghanaian midfielder has a release clause of £43m but the London giants are hoping to land him for less than that. They will still, however, need to sell assets in order to add him.

Gunners are still hoping to extend Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s stay, while they think it will be impossible to shift Mesut Ozil this summer. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to make a loan move to Giallorossi permanent, which will free up some space on the wage bill but another sale is likely to be required to raise the required transfer fee.
