The London giants could welcome back both Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Cedric Soares to first-team action on Thursday night against Liverpool with both backs in full training. Neither defender has made an appearance yet this campaign, with both the Greek and the Frenchman out with calf injuries.
However, Arsenal has confirmed that both are back in full training now and could be options for the Spaniard on his second trip to Anfield this week, this time in the Carabao Cup after the 3-1 PL loss on Monday night. Arsenal have been struggling with many injuries in defence and continue to do so, with Chambers Mustafi and Mari all still out.
Calum Chambers and Mustafi are nearing returns, with the club expecting them to be back in full training after the international break in October. Chambers has been out since December when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, while Mustafi has been missing since the FA Cup semi-final win over Man City with a hamstring problem
Pablo Mari is also getting close, with his expected return to training coming in two weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in June. Gabriel Martinelli is still a long way from fitness and it stays unlikely he will play for the Gunners this year due to a knee injury.
Otherwise, Mikel Arteta has a clean bill of health in his squad for the fourth round of the EFL Cup and will be hoping that is still the case when Arsenal host Sheffield United in the PL on the weekend.
