Red Devils were linked with a swoop for Newcastle starlet Sean Longstaff this transfer window, but he looks to be edging closer to committing his long-term future to the Magpies. Man United made a point of targeting talented players this transfer window, as evidenced by the signings of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
Sean was also linked with a move to Old Trafford, Newcastle United gave him a £50m price-tag as they seemingly had no intention of selling Longstaff as he continues to quickly emerge as a crucial figure for them in the long-term future.
That valuation was enough to fend off the Red Devils as that is a lot of money to spend on a footballer who hasn’t yet consistently proven his ability to deliver at the top level. Any possible move to Man United in the future is seemingly moving further away, as Englishman is now in talks with Magpies over signing a new £80,000-a-week contract.
With that kind of financial boost coupled with the potential of playing a crucial role in Newcastle United moving forward, it could be enough to convince the 21-year-old midfielder to remain and snub a move elsewhere at this level of his career.
That won’t rule out another attempt by the Red Devils in the future if Ole Gunnar is still in charge and believes that the footballer can bolster his team. However, it certainly sends a message that Sean is happy where he is and that Magpies are in a pole position to demand a hefty fee if they are forced to consider an exit.
