Gunners highly-rated academy striker Folarin Balogun has reportedly decided to leave the London club this summer after failing to agree on a new deal with the club. Mikel Arteta has gifted plenty of chances to the talented teenagers at his disposal this campaign, including Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock.
However, amid boasting an excellent goalscoring record at youth level, Folarin is yet to make his first-team debut for the London giants. With the English striker’s deal due to expire next summer, the Gunners have been attempting to tie him down to a new long-term contract.
But given his limited involvement with the senior squad, Folarin has now made up his mind to move on. The report states that Gunners will consider acceptable bids for the teenager in the next transfer window, rather than let him go for free in 12 months.
The London giants rejected a £5m bid from Brentford for the 18-year-old striker in January, while he has also attracted interest from several Europe’s top clubs.
Arsenal manager singled out academy product Eddie Nketiah for praise after a youthful Gunners side progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United on the weekend.
The 21-year-old player came on as a substitute for Alexandre Lacazette in the second half and when asked about the performance of his teenagers, the Spanish manager highlighted the fighting spirit of Nketiah. ‘They are evolving and they are really willing and they have a lot of personalities to play,’ Mikel Arteta said.
