18-year-old Arsenal centre-forward could miss start of next season

Gunners striker Gabriel Martinelli could miss the start of next campaign for the London club after getting the call up for Brazil’s Olympic squad. U23 Brazil international has been picked for Brazil for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to play alongside Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid and Herta Berlin striker Matheus Cunha as per the report.

As seen in the tweet below, Brazil announced its Olympic team on Twitter which included Gabriel and his teammates. The Olympics end on August 9th while the PL is scheduled to kick off a day before, on August 8th 2020. Gabriel has vast potential and can become a top-class striker if he continuous improvement.

Should Brazil make the latter stages of the Olympic competition, Gabriel would likely miss Gunners opening clash of the campaign at the very least. The 18-year-old centre-forward would also benefit from some time off following the Olympic matches, this could see him out until September.

Brazil goes into the Olympics as one of the favourites, while the Brazilian striker has described playing for the national team as a dream come true, earlier in winter. Gabriel said: “I am Brazilian and my dream, of course, is to play for Brazil.”

Gabriel will be significantly involved in Gunners campaign next season with both Gunners centre-forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette linked with moves away from Arsenal. Gabriel have fantastic results in this season as he already played 26 games, scored ten goals and provided four assists across all tournaments.
