£150,000-a-week defender set to sign new contract with Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk decided to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool despite several offers from European giants. It is fantastic news for the Reds as he is a real leader of the defence and one of the best centre-backs in the world. The Netherlands international had a phenomenal campaign and proved his greatness one more time.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing him and planning to make a bid during the summer transfer window. There will be a contest for the footballer, and his price could become much more. The 27-year-old defender joined Liverpool from Southampton last January with an £80m deal.

He became an unchanged figure for the club and scored several vital goals since joining. In this season, Dutch centre-back played 50 matches, scored six goals and provided four assists in all competition. It is a fantastic result, and he can improve his consequences during the next campaign.

Virgil has contracted with the Merseyside club until 2023, and his release clause is nearly £75m. He is a captain of the national team and which is already a big success for the footballer. Van Dijk also helped Liverpool to win the Champions League and finished the Premier League in a second place.

La Liga giants will do everything to add him this summer, but it will be difficult as Merseyside club aren’t going to sell such a prominent figure during the transfer window. Liverpool heavily linked with Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and PSG footballer Adrien Rabiot.
