£120,000-a-week midfielder set to sign new contract with Man United

Some players will split opinion among the fans but always seem to be trusted on the big occasion by their coach. The case with Nemanja Matic is an odd one, he appeared to be out the door at Theatre of Dreams, but injuries and the Paul Pobga situation allowed him to re-establish himself.

At his best, Serbia international can control a game from deep, keep the ball moving and his defensive positioning can help break up attacks, while he also has a pretty ferocious long shot too. At his worst, he’s too slow, fails to play any kind of progressive pass and can destroy the counter-attacking game of his team.

Matic is now a regular in the team again so it seemed inevitable that he would get a new deal. They report that Man United have the option to extend his contract by one year, which would be ideal if they want to keep him, but they haven’t done that yet.

That means Matic can discuss terms over a pre-contract agreement for next campaign, but perhaps Red Devils want to wait and see if someone better will be available in the Summer before committing to anything. Man United have excellent consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a fifth place in the table.

Red Devils signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Harry Maguire from Leicester City, Daniel James from Swansea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace. Premier League giants also added Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua and Nathan Bishop from Southend United.
