Chelsea manager has hinted at a Blues debut for new addition Thiago Silva in the London club’ League Cup match with Barnsley this week. Brazil international is yet to feature for the London giants since completing a free transfer from PSG in August.
Thiago watched on as a 10-man Blues fell to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at London on Sunday and he’s been working on regaining full fitness after a gruelling campaign in the French capital. Andreas Christensen was sent off in the defeat with Liverpool and will now serve a three-match ban.
Frank Lampard had planned on making a string of changes regardless of Dane’s situation but he says Silva could feature with Barnsley. Asked if new additions like Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech could feature, Frank Lampard said the 36-year-old defender was the only one capable of featuring: ‘Too soon probably in terms of fitness-wise.’
‘We’ll see with Thiago because Thiago’s not coming back off an injury, he’s just getting fit. ‘The others it seems too soon, but they are not far away.’ Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are the only new arrivals that have made their debuts for Chelsea so far this term.
It’s been a summer of change at Chelsea, with six arrivals so far and Edouard Mendy set to arrive to make it seven. Brazilian had several offers from clubs across the world but he says he was won over by the project at London club. ‘First and foremost, I came because Chelsea is an amazing team and one of the biggest clubs in the world,’ said Silva.
