Manchester United could sing a Greek international as Luke Shaw replacement

Louis van Gaal is considering a January swoop for Augsburg full-back Kostas Stafylidis. Manchester United were heavily linked with several defenders,  for reinforcements at left-back after Luke Shaw broke his leg against PSV.

The England international is expected to be out for over six months and the Red Devils are keen to strengthen their defence. Stafylidis is a versatile defender who has an experience to play in England, as he was out on loan from Bayer Leverkusen at Fulham. The 21-year-old was impressive with  the Whites and performed well in his 38 appearances at London  club.

This summer Augsburg have signed Greek left-back from league rivals Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee, both Bundesliga clubs confirmed in official statements.

Stafylidis played a major role in the Greek squad at the Under-19 European Champions and won a runners-up medal. He has scored his first goal with Greece national team in a 4-3 home win against Hungary.

Chelsea boss was busy near the end of the transfer window trying to lure highly-rated Everton centre-back John Stones to the club. However, Mourinho was left frustrated as a deal failed to materialise and the Blues instead signed Senegal international Papy Djilobodji.

After failure in Stones transfer, English champions are actively monitoring the highly-rated defender Stefan Savić and considering a January move to bolster the defensive options of the team.

According to the Atletico Madrid’s insider, Savic is unhappy with current situation at Madrid, disappointed because of his short playing time and will be happy to return at Premier League, as he played for Manchester City  before joining Fiorentina in back in 2012.

The 24-year-old centre-half moved to Spanish outfit from the Purples signing a five-year contract with the club, but failed to make an impact under Diego Simeone guidance, as the Montenegro international played just 2 games at La Liga since July.

The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is considering to bolster the squad in January, as after Jordan Henderson injury and Steven Gerrard move, Liverpool midfield are clearly struggling this year. The German manager is said to be a huge admirer of Croatian creative star Mateo Kovacic and considering a loan move for youngster in January.

However, Kovacic was linked with Anfield side, but Real Madird made a huge €32m bid and secured a starlet in last summer. He became the fifth Croatian player, after Robert Prosinečki, Davor Šuker, Robert Jarni, and Luka Modrić, to join the Royal club.

The 5”10” midfielder clearly struggling this term at Madrid as he made just 8 La Liga appearances without scoring a goal and making an assist. Kovacic is said to be unhappy with his lack of football and could be interested in to join Liverpool for more playing time.

The Croatian’s talent is not in doubt. There have been plenty of moments at Inter when he has left audiences gasping. He has been described as a great technician with excellent dribbling abilities, and is considered to be a versatile midfielder, having played in a different positions.
