The-24-year old Montenegro international and Atletico Madrid centre-half Stefan Savic  says he was surprised Arsenal did not take the option to sign him after undergoing a trial with the club as a teenager.

Savic confirmed he was just a step away to put the pen to the papers but club officials refused to offer transfer terms.

“I was very young. At 17 I went there to try a couple of weeks. I think I did well, I ended up happy, I don’t know why they didn’t sign me in the end, but perhaps for what I’d lived up until then it was a good decision for me.”

“The experience was OK, leaving a very small town and going to train at a top club, imagine that for a boy. Later I played against Arsenal in the Champions League, so I was not wrong.” – Savic added.

The highly-rated defender who is currently playing for Atletico Madrid failed to impress football fans in his period in England. Savic joined Manchester City On 6 July 2011 but has made just 12 league appearances. Since his move to Serie A Montenegrin made over 100 appearances for Fiorentina, becoming a vital component of La Viola’s defence.
