Chelsea and Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow after Faouzi Ghoulam agreed on a new long-term deal at Napoli. Ghoulam has played 151 appearances for Napoli since joining the club back in 2014. However, the 26-year-old left-back was being strongly linked with a transfer to the Premier League ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The Stories suggest Liverpool made a move for the Algerian defender who was immediately knocked back by the Serie A side in October. It’s also believed that Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola have been showing a strong interest in Ghoulam. However, on Tuesday Napoli announced that the Algeria international had signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2022.

Ghoulam’s lats contract at the Stadio San Paolo was due to end next June and Napoli responded decisively to suggests that his deal would not be renewed. ‘About the “freeze on the renewal of the contract”, renewed until June 30, 2022,’ Napoli tweeted.

It’s understood Ghoulam now has a release clause of around £30million.
