Arsene Wenger has earmarked German ace Max Meyer as a main summer transfer target.

The Schalke and Germany star can play in a variety as an attacking midfielder or striker, or even as a deep-lying playmaker.

Meyer, 22, is out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal are set to face stiff competition for his signature from the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Milan.

Hwever it is believed Wenger is already working hard on convincing Meyer to join fellow German international Mesut Ozil at The Emirates.

Hopes of landing Meyer were boosted last month after Schalke CEO Christian Heidel rejetced to deny reports surrounding the ace.

He said: “Max will be deciding shortly if he wants to stay at Schalke past the summer.

“Max is very happy here, Schalke is his home, we will try to make it him as comfortable financially as possible.

“He is playing the best season of his life, and the coach has found a position for him that Max didn’t believe he could play.

“Personally, I didn’t think he could either.”
